Real estate just like any other business often follows cyclical trends. There are various reasons for this including the increase and decrease in mortgage interest, housing availability, and the season itself. Spring tends to be the busiest time in real estate; however, fall is also a great time to purchase a home and you will often find many different benefits to waiting until the fall of the year to purchase a home.
Tax Breaks
Did you know that you get tax breaks from purchasing a home? Well, you do and as long as you purchase before the end of the year, you are entitled to that tax break. Mortgage interest and property taxes are deductible from your gross income which helps many individuals reduce their tax obligation.
Fewer Buyers Competing and Sellers More Motivated
Traditionally, you will find that buyers tend to be more active in the spring and summer seasons. This is often because of family life, disruption of changing schools during the middle of the school year, and other activities that often consume us during the fall and winter months. Therefore, you may benefit from fewer individuals looking for a home during the fall and raise your bets at not getting into a bidding war. In addition, sellers who put their homes on the market during the fall are usually more motivated to move. They may have a new job or other obligations in which they need to sell their home fast. This may benefit a buyer in assistance with closing costs, finding better prices on a home, and possibly other incentives.
Moving Weather, Deals, & Holiday Season
When you purchase a home during the fall, you will allow yourself to enjoy the cooler temperatures to moving. Moving during the heat of the summer is no fun! Take it from me as I have personal experience and not just a one-time experience. Not only is the weather nicer, but you may also find amazing deals to decorate your new home! Many companies have lots of fall deals on furniture, outdoor furniture, decor, and other items so they can move those items out of the way and prepare for the holiday season. Speaking of the holiday season, if you move during the fall you will be able to spend the holidays in a new home! What a sweet memory to have!
Moving during the fall has a lot of benefits for both buyers and sellers. The above-mentioned benefits of tax breaks, fewer competing buyers, seller motivation, weather, deals, and holidays are just a few of the many benefits that come from moving during the fall. Fall is my personal favorite season and you may find that it becomes your favorite season to buy real estate!
