Charleston is one of the oldest and largest cities in South Carolina. It has an abundant amount of natural scenic areas that you can explore to soak up the sun this spring.
If you are looking to explore gardens head to Middleton Place. This site is one of the oldest landscaped gardens in the country dating back to 1741.
If you'd like to take a stroll look no further than the Swamp Fox Passage. This is one of South Carolina Lowcountry's oldest trails. Enjoy the swampy wetlands and coastal pine forests of the Francis Marion National Forest while strolling this long, flat, one-way path. The Edisto Nature Trail is another beautiful path that you can stroll and view the mature pines, hardwoods, and black cypress.
If you are downtown enjoying the market, shops, and restaurants, don't forget to soak up some sun at Waterfront Park. The park is located just a few blocks from the Market and has beautiful views of the Cooper River Bridge and Charleston Harbor. Walk the pier and enjoy the family-sized swings. Make sure to take the iconic photo in front of the Pineapple Fountain. While downtown you can also visit the Battery. As one of the most visited spots in Charleston, you can enjoy the views of Ashley and Cooper Rivers. While there visit the White Point Garden directly across the street.
If you are not in the mood to walk around and would rather take a drive, one of my personal favorite scenic views is Ashley River Road. I find the 11 miles of road to be absolutely magnificent and breathtaking. The Spanish moss trees, azaleas, and plantations are just a wonder to see. I also love all the old churches that are tucked away on Ashley River Road.
