Spring break for families right now doesn't mean taking a trip due to finances. Did you know you can do a lot of things right here in the Charleston area? Often times we forget about all the cool things our own city has to offer so here are a few ideas for an at-home Spring Break.
Fort Sumter Tours: Take a boat ride and explore where the Civil War began. This is a location that many Charlestonians have visited, but we can take this time to explore this area while still being educational for our children.
Middleton Place: Enjoy the 110 sprawling acres of Middleton Place which includes 65 acres of landscaped gardens, a house museum, stable yards, restaurant, inn, and organic farm. Enjoy seeing alligators, pigs, and peacocks! Another historic and educational place for the kids.
Shem Creek: Enjoy walking the boardwalk, stand-up paddleboarding, or kayaking beside the dolphins at Shem Creek. While there enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants overlooking the water.
Beaches: Go and enjoy the beach! Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island. Beaches are abundant in the Charleston area. Enjoy a fun day in the sun, splashing in the water, building a sandcastle, and soak up the sun!
Patriot's Point: Enjoy spending time at Patriot's Point and visit Yorktown! My son personally loves Yorktown and enjoys exploring the ship and the Vietnam experience.
South Carolina Aquarium: Spend a few hours at the aquarium viewing and learning about the aquamarine animals. Visit the touch tank for a hands-on experience and don't forget to see the sharks!
Charles Towne Landing: Visit this historic village that recreates the early life of Americans.
Audubon Swamp Garden: Visit the 60-acre preserve and be fascinated by your local wildlife.
Children's Museum of the Lowcountry: Enjoy this non-profit organization that allows children to explore and learn through play!
These are just a few of the many things that you can explore with your children during this spring break. Please make sure to review my calendar of events for next month, April, so that you can find even more exciting activities to add to your spring break list!
